Stockholm, our 8 week old kitten, is the Paul Newman of cats. We try not to be shallow here at Stumptown, but oh boy is Stockholm pretty. So pretty that he could get away with being a real turd. But instead, Stockholm is delightful! He's a ridiculous, soft, sweet, smooshy kitten and it takes all of our willpower not to put him in our mouths.
Found stray and very ill, Stockholm was left at a local emergency clinic. He came from a county without a cat shelter, so the clinic reached out to us for help. Even though we are a dog rescue, we also love kittens, so we happily took Stockholm in.
Stockholm had a severe eye and upper respiratory infection likely due to feline herpes. If his mother carried the virus (many cats do) and she was stressed during pregnancy, Stockholm was likely exposed at birth. After weeks of antibiotics and antivirals, he now feels great. Stockholm's right cornea has some scarring which could lead to dry-eye in the future, but he can see just fine and his eye doesn't hurt. Just like human herpes, feline herpes is for life, so Stockholm could have mild flares in the future. He could also be contagious to other cats; if the cats are adults and vaccinated, the illness would be mild.
Friendly, funny, playful and sweet, Stockholm gets an A+ in kitten. He loves other cats and wants desperately to play with the dogs in his foster home. He needs to stay an inside cat - he would likely walk right up to a coyote to say hello.
Stockholm is neutered, microchipped, FeLV/FIV negative, and is current on his flea prevention and vaccines. He will need vaccines every 3-4 weeks until he is 16 weeks old, so his adopter should make those vet appointments now.
For a dog rescue that dabbles in kitten rescuing, we sure hit the jackpot with Stockholm.
