About Darla
Personality: Affectionate, Athletic, Friendly, Funny, Loves, Playful
Darla, our 11 month old 40 pound Pitbull, will be 45-50 pounds when she's fully beefcaked up. Found tied to a pole at only 27 pounds, Darla was nearly skeletal when we took her in from the local shelter. She's spent weeks with us gaining weight (and weaseling her way into our hearts). We have to admit it's going to be hard to say goodbye to Darla, but we're excited to find this A+ dog an equally A+ home.
Darla came to us with some skills already. She is a loose leash walker (squirrel sightings excluded) and isn't reactive to other dogs even if they bark at her first. On bar patios, Darla accepts pets from everyone and greets them with a wagging tail. Since she's been in foster, she's learned to comfortably stay in a crate and is potty trained. She's also learned sit, leave-it, wait and stay. Darla is so people-focused and treat motivated, she is a delight to train.
Still very puppy-like, Darla has a tendency to jump up and can be mouthy when playing. Because of this we do not recommend young kids in Darla's home. Darla is great with all of her dog foster siblings- even the sassy tiny one. Like a lot of pitties, Darla loves to rough-house, so she would do great in a house with another playful dog (or have access to a dog friend). She is ultimately an adventure-pitty/sports model so would do best with someone active. When not playing, Darla is the ultimate cuddle bug and is happy to relax on the couch.
Darla is mostly good with cats but does want to chase them when they run. Since being chased by a Pitbull can be scary, we recommend a cat-free home for Darla. It can be very hard to rent with a Pitbull. Darla's adopter ideally would own their own home; if not, we will require a note from the landlord stating they don't have any breed restrictions at the property.
Darla is heartworm negative and current on her flea and heartworm preventatives.
We can't wait to see the perfect muscley land-seal that Darla is turning into. Want to help her finish her transformation?
