About Finney

Personality: Affectionate, Brave, Curious, Friendly, Funny, Smart, Playful

Of all the things one would expect to see in a basket on the side of the road, we would put a Doberman puppy pretty low on the list. But that's how our Finney (currently 11 weeks old and 8 pounds) was found. Finney's no snitch, so he's not telling us how he got there. We're very glad he was spotted, though, and we're even more glad we get to find Finney a home.

The shelter reached out to us for help as Finney was limping badly on his back leg. His x-rays showed that he had very little calcium in his bones; this was caused by malnutrition. Malnutrition is also why our Finney is so small for his breed and age. Fortunately, it's fairly easy to fix. After a few weeks with regular meals of puppy food, Finney's limp is gone and he's growing like he should be. We still suspect him to be smaller than average as an adult; probably around 40-50 pounds.

Finney may not see perfectly. This is likely also due to being malnourished before we met him. However, Finney's vision has improved greatly over the last few weeks. He's tracking everything normally and is not running into things. Just in case, though, his adopter should be careful with Finney and heights. We don't recommend that Finney drive.

Finney is a star pupil and a great puppy. He is crate trained, friendly, good with all dogs and cats and is nearly potty trained. Finney's foster family describes him as very bright; at 11 weeks old, he already knows sit, down and come! In fact (and this is between us), they say he's the best puppy they have fostered. Finney has typical mouthiness, but is easily redirected. However, because puppy teeth are sharp, little kids may not enjoy Finney.

All puppies need vaccines every 3 weeks until they are 16 weeks old. All puppies also need plenty of socialization and training. It will be a requirement for Finney's adopter to have a plan for puppy and obedience classes. Finney is neutered, microchipped and up to date on his preventatives.
