About Shaz

Personality: Affectionate, Athletic, Friendly, Funny, Loves, Playful, Smart

Shaz, our 8 month old 42 pound pitty, expresses her love with physical touch. She showers her people in kisses and leans in for prolonged hugs. Shockingly, black pitbulls are often overlooked in rescue. One cuddle with Shaz should convince anyone that they're missing out.

Shaz was found stray and was so scared at the shelter that she wouldn't even walk. We've had Shaz for over a month and she's really come out of her shell. Although shy and contemplative, once Shaz is comfortable, she is goofy, playful, gentle and 100% sweet.

At home, Shaz is mostly potty trained, is perfectly crate trained and does well when left alone. She is great with other dogs, both small and large, and is not leash reactive. Shaz has also been respectful of cats (mostly observing them from a distance). Out and about, Shaz is learning leash skills (she hasn't quite mastered not zigging when her person zags). She's not entirely sure about all humans and will sometimes stop walking to quietly observe them. However, this is getting better as Shaz is very food motivated.

Like a lot of pitties, Shaz has a scary bark. She will bark at new people coming into her space for a second until she's sure they are safe. Although not at all aggressive, the bark may be alarming to children, so we don't recommend little kids in Shaz's home. Shaz makes friends easily with patience and treats, but we suspect Shaz would be stressed out in a house with a lot of strangers coming and going.

We suspect Shaz experienced punishment in her previous home; Shaz runs into her kennel if someone even slightly raises their voice. Shaz thrives with positive reinforcement and loves to be told she's doing things the right way. She needs to live with someone as gentle as she is who will let her go at her own speed.

Shaz is heartworm negative and current on her flea and heartworm preventatives. Her adoption fee is $250. Due to her breed, Shaz must be adopted by a home-owner or someone with written permission from their landlord.

After you meet Shaz, you'll wonder why everyone doesn't adopt a black pitbull.
