About Petey
Personality: Affectionate, Brave, Curious, Friendly, Funny, Playful
Petey, our 9 year old 20 pound terrier mix, isn't winning any spelling bees. He's not going to join the Talented and Gifted program and no one wants him on their trivia team. Petey's much more likely to be found studying a fallen leaf (confounding!) or staring at a bicycle (how do they do it?). Although he's not the smartest dog we know, he certainly is one of the nicest.
We were asked to take Petey because he needed dental work. He had been found stray and showed signs of chronic neglect. Petey's been with us for weeks now; his hair and skin look great and his teeth are fixed (he had to lose quite a few). During his time with us, we noted that Petey has an odd gait. He's not in any pain, but is mildly weak in his back legs. X-rays revealed chronic disc disease. Although this doesn't affect him much, Petey shouldn't be allowed to jump from high places and a lot of stairs may be a challenge.
Petey is friendly to everyone he meets. He is a gentleman on a leash, but gets easily distracted. His adopter should be okay with watching cars go by and saying hello to every living thing. Because Petey is so distracted by life, he can not fathom using the restroom while on lead. For that reason, Petey does need a yard. Petey does great with other dogs, both on and off leash, but isn't the best at reading body language. A patient friend would be ideal.
Petey is potty trained, quiet, not destructive, and is affectionate. Although he's on the older side, like most terriers, Petey loves toys and can get super amped when introduced to the right squeaky. We think Petey would do fine with respectful older children. He is also likely to do fine with a dog savvy cat. Petey met a cat on a walk once and just stood there benignly staring while the cat hissed until his foster mom picked him up. Like we said, Petey is not a genius.
Petey is heartworm negative and is current on his flea and heartworm preventatives.
Although our Petey's head is mainly air, he's got a solid heart. We are sure his home is out there. Is it yours?
