About Gertrude

Personality: Affectionate, Curious, Friendly, Loves Kisses, Playful, Quiet

Gertrude (Gertie to her friends), our 5 month old 24 pound Pitty mix, is racking up her "firsts". She went on her first camping trip, which meant she wore her first sweater and put her feet in a lake for the first time. Gertrude went on her first hike and saw her first snowflake. She's been to her first puppy social and has mastered her first commands (sit and come). Now that she's recovered from surgery, it's finally time to find Gertie's family. She has so many more firsts to experience!

Surrendered to the shelter after she was hit by a car, Gertie became a staff favorite due to her sweet personality. We were asked to help because of the extent of her injuries; her shin was badly fractured. Although Gertie's leg could not be saved, she's figured out how to tripod already, and is proving she can do what any other puppy can do.

Gertrude is a thoughtful puppy. She is tremendously cuddly and loving and asks for belly rubs from everyone. Gertie is potty and crate trained, but when she's not in a crate, Gertie is comfortable relaxing under a desk. Gertie, like most puppies, puts things in her mouth first and ask questions later. Good thing she's easy to redirect and is very food motivated.

Gertie is great with other dogs and is happy to play with any willing participant. She's been politely interested in the cats in her foster home. We have not seen Gertie with kids but think she'd do fine with kids over 8. Like everyone who adopts a puppy, Gertie's adopter should plan on continued socialization and training. Gertie would love to live with another playful dog or to have plenty of playdates.

Gertie is current on her flea and heartworm preventatives. We suspect her to be about 45 pounds fully grown.

Watching a puppy figure out how to do everything for the first time is so rewarding. Almost as rewarding as watching them get adopted!
