About Franklin
Personality: Affectionate, Brave, Curious, Friendly
Franklin, our 2 year old 10 pound Chiweenie mix, is a party animal. He loves nothing more than running around and playing chase. Now that he's finally got his own wheels, Franklin does a stellar keeping up with his friends! Now to work on navigating those tight turns...
Franklin was taken to the shelter after he'd been hit by a car. He sustained a bad fracture to his spine and a head injury. Although it was touch and go for a bit, Franklin made it clear that he wasn't ready to give up. We took him in to give him a chance at a forever home.
We had Franklin evaluated by a neurologist who assured us that Franklin is comfortable. He will likely never fully regain nerve function to his back end, but our little guy is figuring it out. Not having nerve function means that Franklin drags his back feet. It also means he has no control over his bladder or colon. So, at home, Franklin wears a diaper. His foster family says he's otherwise easy to care for and easy to keep clean.
Thanks to our friends at Amicus Animal Rehab, Franklin was fitted with a custom wheelchair. He's currently getting rehabilitation to work on his strength and to get a little better at driving. Franklin loves his new freedom. Out and about, Franklin is an excellent bar and patio dog. He's happy to relax in a sling and is eager to make new friends. Franklin really likes other dogs his size. Big dogs make him nervous. He also likes to chase cats, but obviously has a hard time catching up with them.
Franklin is working on being alone. He prefers to be with someone most of the time. As he does need diaper changes throughout the day, Franklin's ideal adopter would work from home or would be able to take Franklin to work. He's a very good boy sitting under someone's desk.
Franklin is heartworm negative and is current on his preventatives.
A new dog AND a new car all in one? What a deal.
