About Augusta

Personality: Affectionate, Funny, Gentle, Loves, Playful

Augusta, our 1 and 1/2 year old 8 pound terrier mix, is the perfect weight to sit on a lap. Which works out, since "a lap dog" is exactly how Augusta would describe herself. Augusta can curl herself into the perfect wirey cinnamon roll, so she hardly takes up any space at all. We're very surprised this sweet dog needs a home, but we are excited to help her find one.

Found injured with a broken back leg, the shelter asked us to help. Upon our evaluation, we found that the fracture was beyond repair. We had to amputate Augusta's leg. She's healed from that procedure and is finally pain free. If you've ever known a tripod dog before, you know that they can get around just as well as dogs with 4 legs.

Augusta is on the nervous side. Once she gets to know someone, however, she is friendly and playful. Augusta is learning how to walk on a leash, but can be fearful of other dogs while she's on lead. But, off leash, Augusta is good with dogs of all sizes and with cats. We think respectful older children would be fine in Augusta's home as well.

In the house, Augusta is perfectly crate trained. She's getting the hang of potty training, but is a shy pooper, so sometimes has accidents. Her fosters say this is getting better. Augusta loves toys and if her foster dog brother doesn't feel like playing anymore, Augusta is happy to self entertain. She is an expert at fetch and is good at hiding the things she treasures (you may need to check your boots for her favorite chew).

Smart and food motivated, Augusta is easy to train. She doesn't love loud noises, so a quieter home and neighborhood would be her preference. In return, Augusta will repay her adopter by letting them know if a stranger is in the yard. Because of her alert barking, thin walled apartments may not work (although Augusta is usually quiet).

Augusta is heartworm negative and is current on her flea and heartworm preventatives.

What are you doing with your lap-space anyway? Look down; is there space for small terrier?
